Ahilan Ratnamohan’s latest football-dance-theatre work will examine the situation surrounding the migrant workforce being used to build stadiums for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the exploitation, which takes place to fuel the multi-billion dollar world game. Working with a cast of predominantly South Asian footballers, Ahilan is interested in developing a movement vocabulary, which does not involve the ball, but uses football as an allegory. The choreography will be accompanied by a surreal mix between the rhythms and soundscapes of prominent underground producer DJ Mutamassik and interviews recorded with former migrant arbiters from Qatar.
