The Comune di (City of) Sansepolcro is a public institution actively involved in the planning and management of many cultural activities: libraries, museums, music, theatre seasons and festivals. In 2011 the Comune di Sansepolcro, second in Italy and one of the first in Europe, created a specific “Department of Contemporaneity and Interculture”, providing it with its own budget (distinct from the one of the “Culture and Identity Department”). Since 2003 the Comune di Sansepolcro, together with Cultural Association CapoTrave/Kilowatt, has been promoting Kilowatt theatre and dance festival, which in 2010 won the Ubu Prize (the most important Italian theatre award).
